Keyanow Child and Family Centre is dedicated to creating a network of care and support for children and youth who are unable to live with their biological families. Our Foster Services are designed to provide safe, nurturing, and loving temporary homes for these children, ensuring they receive the care and support needed to thrive. Here’s an overview of our Foster Services:

Foster Care Placement

We work diligently to match children and youth with foster families that can best meet their needs, taking into consideration the child's age, background, health, and emotional needs. Our goal is to provide a stable and supportive environment where children can feel secure and loved. We offer both short-term and long-term foster care placements, depending on the needs of the child and the circumstances leading to their placement.

Support for Foster Families

Keyanow Child and Family Centre is committed to supporting our foster families every step of the way. We provide comprehensive training to all prospective foster parents, covering topics such as trauma-informed care, behavior management, and the unique needs of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Our foster families also have access to a range of support services, including 24/7 crisis intervention, counseling, and respite care, to ensure they have the resources and support needed to care for their foster children effectively.

Foster Family Community

We believe in the power of community to provide additional layers of support and encouragement for our foster families. To facilitate this, we organize meetings, workshops, and social events that allow foster families to connect, share their experiences, and learn from each other. This community-based approach helps to strengthen the network of support for foster children and the families that care for them.

Advocacy and Education

Keyanow Child and Family Centre advocates for the best interests of foster children at all levels. This includes working with schools, healthcare providers, and other community agencies to ensure that foster children have access to the education, healthcare, and other services they need. We also provide education and training for our foster families and the wider community on the importance of foster care and how to support these vulnerable children and youth.

Transition and Reunification Services

Whenever possible, our goal is to support the safe and successful reunification of children with their biological families. Our team works closely with the child, their biological family, and the foster family to develop and implement a tailored reunification plan. For older youth, we also offer transition services designed to prepare them for independent living, providing support with education, employment, housing, and life skills training.
